The Big Game!

TIPS TO KEEP YOU ON TRACK

No one wants to be a spoilsport about the Super Bowl, but bad choices can add up if you’re mindlessly munching while watching the game. Don’t throw all of your hard work away by pigging out on bad-for-you foods while watching the big game! Keep in mind that if you don’t overdo it, you’ll feel better in the morning — even if your favorite team loses. Plus, if you follow this advice, it will be “a touchdown” for your next weigh-in!

Here are a few tips to help you tackle the day:
1. Failing to plan is planning to fail. It’s on you to plan what you’ll eat or bring, and to determine how you’ll respond to tempting situations before you face them.
2. Bring a ShiftSetGo approved food to your party such as a veggie tray, meat tray, shish kabobs or one of our fun recipes below.
3. Don’t go to a party starving.
4. Keep a bar or a ShiftSetGo snack with you in case you feel you may need to snack at the party. Crisps are great!
5. Remember that no alcohol is allowed!
6. If you host the party, have plenty of “to go” bags that you can use to send leftovers home with every guest so that ALL leftovers leave your house.
7. Watch the commercials. Instead of getting up at commercial breaks to snack, sit back and relax. It’s what everyone will talk about the next day anyway.
8. Huddle strategically. Don’t mingle with others right by the food. Placing yourself farther away from the spread will make mindless grazing less likely to happen.

GAME DAY RECIPES

Chicken Jalapeño Poppers

Makes 2 servings (8oz) protein and 2 cups vegetables

Ingredients:
1 lb ground chicken breast
3 ½ C grated zucchini
½ C green onions, sliced
3-4 Tbsp cilantro, minced
Chopped jalapeno if desired
1 clove garlic
1 tsp salt
½ tsp pepper
½ tsp cumin
2 tsp olive oil

Directions:
1. Combine chicken with zucchini, green onion, cilantro, garlic, cumin, salt, and pepper (and jalapeno, if using).
2. Heat olive oil in a medium pan over medium heat. Use a small scoop or a heaped tablespoon to scoop meatballs into the pan.
3. Cook 8-10 at a time for about 5-6 minutes on the first side. Flip and cook an additional 4-5 minutes, or until golden brown and the centers are cooked through.
4. Serve with hot sauce or salsa (sugar free) and enjoy!

Baked Meatballs

Ingredients:
1 pound lean ground beef
2 tsp dry minced onion
½ tsp garlic powder
1-2 eggs
½ tsp sea salt
¼ tsp pepper
Other seasonings to taste

Directions:
1. Preheat oven to at 375⁰F.
2. Mix all ingredients together in a large bowl. Mix should not be too wet. Start with 1 egg; if too dry add the second.
3. Shape meat into golf size balls, place on baking sheet.
4. Bake for 15-20 minutes until meatballs are cooked through.
